Can you provide me the location of the plantation relative to Belize City so I can get a general idea of where you are located?
The teak plantation and home site development are south of Belize City approximately 73 miles as shown on the map below. The highway is paved all the way. By airplane, for $50-$80, you can take an 18 minute flight from Belize City to Dangriga located only 15 minutes from the plantation. Many different cities and islands are less than an hour by plane or by boat from Dangriga. There are two different airlines to choose from and flights are almost every hour. Dangriga, which is on the coast and has adequate medical facilities, restaurants and all of your basic needs is nice to have nearby for building materials and a variety of food when pasta or Chinese is calling your name. At the base of the plantation is the village of Alta Vista which is located in the Stann Creek District of Belize. The connecting village is Pomona, which is the location of C.P.B.L.- Citrus Products of Belize Limited. This is the largest citrus company and one of the top industries of Belize. The area of Pomona Valley is known as the most fertile land in the world by locals who plant cash crops and citrus to provide for their families.

Have you done any assessment on the risk from a hurricane? Is there any history of hurricane damage in the general area of your plantation? How many km/miles to water (i.e., the Caribbean?).
There are multiple reasons for the location of the teak plantation. Some of the main reasons are the proximity to the Caribbean, fertility of the land and security from hurricanes, located on the western side of a mountain chain 15 mile directly inland. This acts as a shelter, if a hurricane were to come inland it would NOT go through the mountains. Belize has a season of rain and occasionally a hurricane does affect properties along the coast. However there are citrus and other trees growing within a few miles of the coast and some of those trees and the plantations nearby date back to a century ago. Teak trees have the ability to withstand over 100 mph winds. Teak at a young age can bend from tip to almost touching the ground without snapping. The inland and western side of a mountain location combined with the ability to withstand extreme winds allows for a minimal risk of damage. Remember, the plantation company is managing its trees right in the midst of yours, this allows peace of mind that your purchase is being well maintained and monitored.
